Traveling
East Greenland
Theese few tips is for those who want to visit East Greenland and would like to be
independent of expensive travel agencies. From my
growing up and later stays in Tasiilaq I have experience in traveling,
accommodation, sightseeing and trekking that you can benefit off for free. You can find additional information on the Links
page and you are also welcome to contact me for detailed support. From
Europe the
cheapest way to East Greenland is via Iceland to Kulusuk and from Kulusuk you go
the last step to Tasiilaq with helicopter. All flights can be booked directly on the Internet and I would advice
you to do so months in advance as it is cheaper and there is a risk of sold out
in the summer season.
It can be very difficult to get
accommodation in Tasiilaq as it has been discovered by many tourists who want to
experience the fantastic nature. You might get a room at one of the two hotels
in town but I can also strongly recommend Robert Christensen's Hotel Apartments.
Walking 15 minutes uphill from the apartments you can overlook the town and enjoy the fantastic view over the sea and the
impressive icebergs. Robert's Robert himself is
very helpful in all matters.
Nothing sure can be said about the weather in East Greenland and
Tasiilaq but the summer goes from second half of June into August. It can be
sunny and very warm because of the dry air but you also have to be prepared for
all day rain. I
would advice nothing less than 14 days stay to be sure of periods of good
weather. This should not discourage you from going to East Greenland as the
change in weather can be one of the great experiences of your stay.
